WHO I AM

Other information about me

 

Professor of English, Emeritus, at Clayton State University, where I taught from 1976-2007.  Clayton State is home to Spivey Hall, where my composition "Mark We the Music" had its premiere.

 

Church musician nearly lifelong, currently as organist and composer-in-residence at First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City, GA, and a past member of the Worship/Music team for the Southeastern Synod of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)

Two works selected as semifinalists in the 2020 Fyfe Competition sponsored by the Sewanee Church Music Conference.  Compositions have been sung by numerous churches and by civic and professional choruses in the US and Canada.  SJMP anthem "Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning" was sung in the December 2017 Bethlehem Prayer Service, simulcast between the Washington National Cathedral and the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, Palestine.  Winner or other honoree in a number of prominent hymn-text searches, including at United Theological Seminary in Dayton OH, the Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas TX, and Duke University Chapel in Durham NC.  Recent works accepted at Zintzo Music, Wayne Leupold Editions, and Jamescliff Music Publications.
